Three Key Steps to Secure PC Software

The most important thing to protect your mobile devices, computers and data from hackers is secure pc software. Hackers (also called cybercriminals) hack into your computer or other device for a variety of reasons, such as stealing, altering and deleting information that you consider important. Hackers are malicious, unlike other thieves who may make use of stolen items for legitimate reasons. They are most concerned with having access to sensitive data that is not authorized. This could happen before you realize that something is not right.

Passwords, a security program and firewalls are the three main steps to secure your pc software. If you follow these top guidelines, it’s less likely that your computer will be hacked by hackers or malware (software which encrypts data and requires payment to unlock its unlocking).

Change the name of the administrator account. Make sure you choose an effective password that has upper- and lowercase numbers, letters and computer symbols. Do not use a password that is simple like 1234, as hackers can employ automated software to crack passwords that are simple to guess in just a few minutes.

Keep your operating system (OS) and other software up-to-date. Most software updates contain security patches that help guard against hacking. Install all patches and enable automatic updates if available, to reduce your vulnerability to hackers.

If you own a laptop or any other portable device that’s not being used, make sure the drive is secured. This is particularly crucial for UF students. You can enable encryption in Windows by opening Settings > Update & security > Device encryption. This will secure the entire internal drive, as well as all external drives such SD cards.
